For use for stencilling with water based paints. We tend to use them when applying paint to ceramics and glass. It is simply another tool to apply paint through your stencil (instead of using a brush).and is handy for for single colour work. If working with more than one colour, you will have less control than with a stencil brush. A sponged finish will be more rustic and less sophisticated than using a stencil brush. The stencil sponge measures 4″ (70mm) square x 3/4 inch (20mm) deep. It can be used whole for larger areas or cut up into smaller pieces.
We often use the sponges when decorating furniture to apply both the paint and the varnish; there are no brushmarks.

The finish will be more rustic and less sophisticated than you get when using a stencil brush. The stencil sponge measures 4″ (76mm) square (1″/25mm thick). It can be used as is for larger areas or cut up into smaller pieces. Here’s another use for stencil sponges: they are excellent for applying basecoat paint and varnish to pieces without leaving brushmarks. They are also good for applying paint to ceramics.
